This combination of stories, as the reader will observe, crosses many years beginning around the 1880’s to the present time. The conversations with Asher Dekel, for the sake of continuity, takes place over a period of two days, however, there were many conversations this author had with Asher Dekel that took place over a number of years. Asher was Israeli. His daughter, who had married an American, was living in the United States when the three of us became acquainted. Over the course of a number of years we became fast friends. Each time I met with Asher, I had the great opportunity of asking him questions about the history of Israel and his own personal involvement in it. These stories have been put into a two-day event in this book to lend to the flow of history for the reader’s sake. I actually did spend two different days in Israel with Asher and his lovely wife Sarah, but not consecutively as is written here. Most of the stories told in this history were communicated by Asher and augmented by further research to document the accuracy of each account. It seemed like one story could not be told without leading into another as the whole history of modern Israel unfolded. The people involved are ordinary people, just like you and me. Never in their wildest imaginings would they have considered the possibility that they might do something that would impact history; and yet they did, all because they were true to what they felt they must do. They each acted in accordance with their deeply held convictions. Absolutely wonderful! Heroes and Spies of Zichron is a must read. I could not put the book down and read the entire book in an hour or two. The story is easy to follow and is action packed. The author has included outside facts that are relevant to the story line. I walked away from the book with a renewed gratitude for my personal freedoms and for the great sacrifice that some have made for freedom. I also gained greater insight into the founding of the State of Israel and some less well known nuances regarding the political landscape at that time I have not been to the Holy Land but when I do go I hope to visit the home of Aaron and Sarah who are two of the heroes we are introduced to in the book. If you enjoy history or action I highly suggest you order the book. I have several Jewish friends and plan to order copies for them.Product details

Wonderful written book.
Grab a stack of cookies and a glass of milk and be prepared to read this in one sitting. It is a small book with great power.
Very informative read
Having spent a couple weeks in Israel I found the book fascinating regarding the individuals fighting for Israel's Independence. When we get better acquainted with other individuals and/or families, barriers come down and love and respect is increased. William H. Goodman
For anyone who is interested in Israel and the struggles which were necessary to facilitate the establishment of the State of Israel, this is a 'must read!' The story is compelling; it is well written and it shares an untold story which needs to be told and shared. I can't speak highly enough about it. Very good book which I highly recommend for everyone.
What a compelling story. It is actually two stories interwoven. One is the modern day experience of being in Israel and the other is the amazing, and untold story of the sacrifices made to establish the state of Israel. It is a story that we need to hear, read and experience today so that it all "becomes real " to the modern day reader. It is a quick read, which is good, because it is hard to put it down.
Very interesting story about the history of the establishment of the Jewish State of Israel. A quick, fascinating account of the early settlers of Zichron and the miraculous help they had in preserving Israel. The British get all the credit but without the Israeli Jews, the American Jewish community, and God's will it probably wouldn't have happened. Includes interesting information about the 6 days war. An area of history that I never knew much about.
